A new generation of programmable microprocessor controllers for brushless, sensorless AC motors for recreational and sports aircraft models powered by Li-Pol/Li-ion/Li-Fe batteries. Compared to the previous generation of Kavan controllers, the programming options have been expanded with a number of new functions and the G2 controllers use advanced optimized control technology significantly improving throttle response and efficiency of power stage control. The controller design emphasizes high long-term load capacity and durability, which is required in models with a larger number of servos. The controllers are equipped with a powerful switched-mode power stabilizer BEC with selectable output voltage providing power to the receiver and servos (normal and HV) from the drive battery. A special LED Kavan programming card, which is supplied separately, is used for easy controller setup.
DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE CONTROLLER:
- The controller has a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor with a clock frequency of up to 72 MHz; it is compatible with most AC motors.
- Suitable for most aircraft AC motors powered by 3-6S Li-Pol/Li-ion/Li-Fe batteries.
- Special power stabilizer for the microprocessor to ensure high immunity to interference and reduce the risk of loss of control.
- Optimized control technology significantly improves throttle response and power stage control efficiency, reduces the temperature of the controller.
- Powerful switching power supply stabilizer BEC with output voltage adjustable to 5.2 / 6.0 or 7.4 V and load capacity of 8 A continuous and 20 A peak. SBEC is separated from other circuits of the regulator, it can maintain proper function even if the power board with MOSFET transistors of the regulator burns out.
Normal / Soft / Very soft start modes are suitable for normal propeller aircraft and models with blowers. - Easy programming and adjustment using the transmitter or LED programming card FOXY G2.
- A special programming cable to connect the ESC to the LED programming card allows the user to program the ESC anytime and anywhere (details in the FOXY G2 LED programming card user manual).
- Normal/Proportional/Reversing brake modes (especially the reversing mode) can effectively shorten the landing range.
- A series of protection functions: start-up protection, ESC thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, abnormal power supply voltage protection and control signal loss protection effectively extend the service life of the ESC.
- Throttle range calibration for perfect adaptation to the control signal from your RC kit.
PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS:
- Brake type: Brake off, normal brake (with braking intensity adjustable in 7 levels), proportional brake (controlled by the throttle control: 0-20% of the throttle control deflection corresponds to 100-0% of the brake, 20-100% of the throttle control deflection corresponds to 0-100% of the throttle), reversing (allows you to turn on the motor's reverse operation using an additional channel with a switch).
- Brake strength: The braking intensity is adjustable from Level 1 to Level 7 for the "Normal brake" mode.
- Motor disconnection method: Soft shutdown: The controller gradually reduces the power to 50% of full power over 3 seconds after the voltage protection is activated. Hard shutdown: The motor is immediately switched off.
- Number of Li-Pol cells: It is recommended to set manually for 100% reliable voltage protection function. The controller automatically calculates the number of cells from the connected battery according to the rule "3.7 V per cell" if you select automatic detection.
- Voltage protection: The threshold level of the voltage protection is adjustable in the range of 2.8-3.8 V/cell; the protection can also be turned off completely.
- BEC Voltage: The BEC voltage of the power stabilizer is adjustable to 5.2V / 6.0V or 7.4V.
- Startup: Normal start (instant start), Soft start (with slow start for motors with large propellers, gearbox or smaller blowers), Very soft start (with very slow start for motors with large propellers, gearbox or blowers from 90mm).
- Timing: Adjustable within 0-30°.
- Direction of rotation: Clockwise/Counterclockwise.
- DEO Freewheel: This function can be turned on or off; it can bring better linearity or smoother throttle response.
CONTROLLER PROTECTION FUNCTIONS:
- Start-up protection: The controller measures the engine speed during start-up. If the speed stops increasing or the increase is not stable, the controller will evaluate this as an incorrect start-up. If the throttle is less than 15% at this moment, the controller will automatically try to restart the engine; if the throttle is more than 15%, you must pull the throttle control all the way down to restart the engine.
- Controller thermal protection: The engine will “jam” if the temperature of the controller exceeds 110°C, signaling that the thermal protection has been activated. If you pull the throttle control below 60% at this moment, the “jam” will disappear and the controller will deliver power corresponding to the throttle position. If you move the throttle beyond 60%, the "jamming" will reappear. The temperature of the controller when switched on must not exceed 70°C, otherwise the engine cannot be started.
- Throttle signal loss protection: The controller will immediately shut down the engine if the signal is missing for 0.25 s to prevent further damage and risks resulting from a rapidly rotating rotor or propeller. As soon as a normal signal is received, the controller will resume normal operation.
- Overload protection: The controller will shut down the engine or restart automatically when its load suddenly increases to a very high value.
- Overcurrent protection: The controller will immediately shut down the engine if the peak current consumption exceeds the maximum allowed value; then resume normal operation. If the current consumption still exceeds the maximum allowed value, the motor is completely switched off.
Tip: When turning on the controller for the first time, first calibrate the throttle range according to the instructions. Only then can the controller be used and set other parameters using the transmitter or LED programming card.
