New generation of programmable microprocessor controllers KAVAN for brushless, sensorless AC motors, designed using the latest semiconductor technology with excellent performance characteristics while maintaining very simple and user-friendly operation. It is used to control the speed of AC electric motors in recreational and sports aircraft models when powered by LiPo/Li-ion/LiFe and NiCd/NiMH batteries. The controller is equipped with a powerful switched-mode power stabilizer BEC, which provides power to the receiver and servos from the drive battery. For easy controller settings, the LED programming card KAVAN PRO (also used for programming KAVAN PRO series controllers), which is sold separately.

DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE CONTROLLER

• The controller is equipped with a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor with a clock frequency of up to 96 MHz.
• The DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) optimized control technology significantly improves the throttle response and the efficiency of power stage control, reduces the temperature of the controller.
• Suitable for most aircraft AC motors powered by 3-4S LiPo batteries.
• For powering from NiCd, NiMH, LiPo, Li-ion, LiFe batteries
• Powerful switching power stabilizer BEC 5.0 V with a load capacity of up to 5 A.
• Adjustable timing for optimal adaptation to a given motor.
• Adjustable PCO circuit - disconnecting the motor when the supply voltage drops.
• Normal/Soft/Very soft start modes are suitable for both direct drive and gearbox motors.
• Safe start-up (prevents the motor from starting when turned on).
• A number of protection functions: start-up protection, controller thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, abnormal supply voltage protection and control signal loss protection effectively extend the life of the controller.
• The programming cable for connecting the controller to the KAVAN PRO LED programming card allows the user to program the controller anytime, anywhere.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS

• Brake type: Brake off, normal brake (with braking intensity adjustable in 3 levels), reversing (allows you to turn on the motor reversing using an additional channel with a switch, the reverse motor speed is controlled by the throttle), linear reversing (allows you to turn on the motor reversing using an additional motor).
• Brake strength: The braking intensity is adjustable to 60, 90 or 100% for the "Normal brake" mode.
• Motor disconnection method: Soft shutdown: The controller gradually reduces the power to 60% of full power over 3 seconds after the voltage protection is activated. Hard shutdown: The motor is immediately turned off.
• Number of LiPo cells: We recommend setting manually for 100% reliable voltage protection function. The controller automatically calculates the number of cells of the connected battery according to the "3.7 V per cell" rule, if you select automatic detection.
• Voltage Protection: The voltage protection threshold is adjustable to 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell or 3.4 V/cell; the protection can also be turned off completely.
• Ramp: Determines the throttle response when accelerating from 0% to 100%. Normal/Soft/Very Soft Ramp corresponds to a ramp time of approximately 200 ms/500 ms/800 ms.
• Timing: Adjustable to 5, 15 or 25 °.
• DEO Freewheel: This feature can be turned on or off; it can provide better linearity or smoother throttle response.
• Search Mode: Can help in searching for a model that has landed in difficult terrain - the controller will beep the motor when the throttle is pulled to zero for a preset time.

CONTROLLER PROTECTION FUNCTIONS

• Start-up protection: The controller measures the engine speed during start-up. If the speed stops increasing or if the increase is not stable, the controller will evaluate this as a wrong start-up. If the throttle is less than 15% at this time, the controller will automatically try to restart the engine; if the throttle is more than 20%, you must pull the throttle control all the way down to restart the engine.
• Thermal protection: If the temperature of the controller exceeds 120°C, the controller will limit the output power to 60% (if the soft shutdown of the engine is set) or completely shut down the engine (if the hard shutdown is set).
• Loss of throttle signal: The controller will immediately shut down the engine if the signal is missing for 0.25 s. As soon as a normal signal is received, the controller will resume normal function.
• Overload protection: The controller will shut down the engine or restart automatically when its load suddenly increases to a very high value.
• Voltage protection: As soon as the voltage of the drive battery drops below the set threshold level, the voltage protection of the controller is triggered. The controller limits the output power to 60% (if the soft shutdown of the motor is set) or switches off the motor completely (if the hard shutdown is set).
• Abnormal supply voltage protection: If the voltage of the drive battery is not within the allowed range for the controller, the abnormal supply voltage protection is triggered; the controller will signal a warning by beeping the motor.

Tip: When turning on the controller for the first time, first calibrate the throttle range according to the instructions. Only then can the controller be used and set other parameters using the transmitter or the KAVAN LED PRO programming card.
