A new generation of programmable KAVAN microprocessor controllers for brushless, sensorless AC motors, designed using the latest semiconductor technology with excellent performance characteristics while maintaining very simple and user-friendly operation. It is used to control the speed of AC electric motors in recreational and sports aircraft models when powered by LiPo/Li-ion/LiFe and NiCd/NiMH batteries. The controller is equipped with a powerful switched power stabilizer BEC, which provides power to the receiver and servos from the drive battery. For easy controller settings, the KAVAN Pro LED programming card (also used to program KAVAN Pro series controllers), which is sold separately, is used.

DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTION OF THE CONTROLLER

• The controller is equipped with a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor with a clock frequency of up to 96 MHz.
• DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) technology significantly improves throttle response and power stage control efficiency, reduces controller temperature.
• Suitable for most aircraft brushless motors powered by 3–8S LiPo batteries.
• For powering NiCd, NiMH, LiPo, Li-ion, LiFe batteries
• Powerful switching power stabilizer BEC with selectable voltage 5.0/6.0/7.4/8.4 V with load capacity up to 10 A.
• Adjustable timing for optimal adaptation to the given motor.
• Adjustable PCO circuit - disconnecting the motor when the supply voltage drops.
• Normal/Soft/Very soft start modes are suitable for both direct drive and gearbox motors.
• Safe start (prevents the motor from starting when switched on).
• A series of protection functions: start-up protection, controller thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, abnormal supply voltage protection and control signal loss protection effectively extend the life of the controller.
• The programming cable for connecting the controller to the KAVAN PRE LED programming card allows the user to program the controller anytime, anywhere.
• Throttle range calibration for perfect adaptation to the control signal from your RC kit.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS

• Brake type: Brake off, normal brake (with braking intensity adjustable in 3 levels), reversing (allows you to turn on the reversing of the motor using an additional channel with a switch, the reverse motor speed is controlled by the throttle controller), linear reversing (allows you to turn on the reversing of the channel with a proportional controller with which the reverse motor speed is controlled).
• Brake Strength: The braking intensity is adjustable to 60, 90 or 100% for the “Normal Brake” mode.
• Motor Disconnection Method: Soft Shutdown: The ESC will gradually reduce the power to 60% of full power over 3 seconds after the voltage protection is activated. Hard Shutdown: The motor is immediately shut down.
• Number of LiPo cells: We recommend setting manually for 100% reliable voltage protection function. The ESC will automatically calculate the number of cells in the connected battery according to the “3.7 V per cell” rule if you select automatic detection.
• Voltage Protection: The voltage protection threshold level is adjustable to 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell or 3.4 V/cell; the protection can also be turned off completely.
• Launch: Determines the throttle response during jump acceleration from 0% to 100%. Normal/Soft/Very Soft start corresponds to a start-up time of approximately 200/500/800 ms.
• Timing: Adjustable to 5, 15 or 25°.
• DEO Freewheel: This feature can be turned on or off; it can provide better linearity or smoother throttle response.
• Search Mode: Can help in searching for a model that has landed in a difficult terrain - the controller will beep the motor when the throttle is pulled to zero for a preset time.
• BEC Voltage: Allows you to set the BEC output voltage to 5.0/6.0/7.4/8.4 V.

CONTROLLER PROTECTION FUNCTIONS

• Start-up protection: The controller measures the engine speed during start-up. If the speed stops increasing or if the increase is not stable, the controller will evaluate this as an incorrect start-up. If the throttle is less than 15% at this time, the controller will automatically try to restart the engine; if the throttle is more than 20%, you must pull the throttle control all the way down to restart the engine.
• Thermal protection: If the temperature of the controller exceeds 120 °C, the controller will limit the output power to 60% (if the soft motor shutdown is set) or completely shut down the engine (if the hard shutdown is set).
• Loss of throttle signal: The controller will immediately shut down the engine if the signal is missing for 0.25 s. As soon as a normal signal is received, the controller will resume normal operation.
• Overload protection: The controller will shut down the engine or restart automatically when its load suddenly increases to a very high value.
• Voltage protection: When the voltage of the drive battery drops below the set threshold level, the voltage protection of the controller will be triggered. The controller will limit the output power to 60% (if the motor soft shutdown is set) or completely shut down the motor (if the hard shutdown is set).
• Abnormal supply voltage protection: If the voltage of the drive battery is not within the allowable range of the controller, the abnormal supply voltage protection will be triggered; the controller will signal the warning by beeping the motor.
