Remote control rally car kit on the Tamiya TA02SW chassis with electric motor drive. The presented model won the first two places at the 1983 Monte Carlo Rally.

RC car model kits from the Japanese brand Tamiya are characterized by the best features. Thanks to the clear building instructions and the thoughtful division of building parts into marked bags, even a complete beginner can handle the construction. The basic version of the chassis from the kit usually has excellent driving characteristics, but each Tamiya kit provides a wide range of tuning options. Tamiya kits will give you an incomparable feeling of joy when you build an RC car model yourself.

The Tamiya TA02SW chassis is characterized by low ground clearance, it is a road chassis. The 4x4 drive is provided by a central cardan connecting the differentials of the front and rear axles. Excellent stability is ensured by the transverse location of the battery in the middle of the model near the center of gravity. The engine is located in front of the rear axle.

ATTENTION! This RC car is not a toy, but a more elaborate, functional model that behaves very much like a real car. Given its realistic parameters, if not assembled and operated correctly, it can cause injury to you, or to a spectator, or damage property. The model is intended for driving in a large room, or outdoors on a dry surface, in no case can it be driven in water, snow, puddles, mud, sand, tall grass, on public roads and other places (e.g. parking lots) with car traffic. High "shaggy" carpets are also unsuitable surfaces. This model requires regular maintenance.

Our Tamiya TA02SW chassis test: Like all Tamiya kits, this one also confirms the good reputation of this Japanese manufacturer. After unpacking, frames with plastic parts, several bags with neatly sorted screws, gears and small items remain on the table. The building instructions are clear, each screw is clearly shown in life-size, each step is clearly shown. Even a complete beginner or an older child can handle the construction, under the supervision of an adult. If you follow the instructions and follow a systematic procedure, you will build the model in one evening. You need to buy a steering servo and an RC kit for the kit. This is the advantage of Tamiya building kits. Everyone can mount the servo they want. I usually mount Carson servos (waterproof) 6kg on this chassis. The Tamiya TA02SW chassis is designed for road car models. Although it is no longer the most modern, it is still one of the better ones, which is suitable for hobby drivers and beginners. Spare parts are cheap and easily available. It is very suitable for a beginner racer, as it provides excellent quality at a very affordable price. The chassis is based on a shaped "tub", which protects the electronics well from dirt from the road. The tub has an integrated engine bed and gearbox gears. The rear differential is ball, which allows for a wide range of options for adjusting the stiffness of the differential and therefore the behavior of the rear wheels at high speed and in corners. The front planetary differential is also integrated into the chassis tub, so the entire drive is very well protected and the chassis is very rigid. A string cardan shaft comes out of the gearbox, which drives both differentials. The axle arms are very compact and solid. This is good for beginners who often crash, this model can withstand a lot. The kit includes an ESC controller that controls the Tamiya 540 DC motor. It is a decent combination for hobby driving and most users will be able to use it for a "whole life". The battery compartment is under the center of gravity in the middle of the car. The weight distribution on this chassis is very good and, in conjunction with the high rigidity of the chassis, the model behaves very stably even at higher speeds. The tires have a "slick" surface. These tires are great for riding on slightly rough flat surfaces, making the model surprisingly fast even in its basic version. The shock absorbers in the kit are oil-filled, with a plastic cylinder body and a medium-stiff spring. They are quite sufficient for beginner riding, but if you decide to go for a tuning engine, i.e. higher speeds, I recommend replacing the shock absorbers with a higher type with a metal body. To sum it up, by purchasing this kit you will get several hours of perfect fun during construction, ending with the joy of an excellent model for an older boy or an adult beginner, a road car enthusiast.
