All Li-XX batteries:
have a working temperature range of approx. 5° to 40°C.
are subject to aging and loss of properties regardless of whether they are used or not.
are sensitive to the same charge of all cells in the set, therefore charging with a quality charger with a balancer is recommended.
are sensitive to undercharging below 2.7V
are sensitive to ambient temperature, they quickly lose power at low temperatures
are sensitive to the principles of proper handling and if you suspect damage, you must take them out of service and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner.
Good advice: Cheap mains or USB charging adapters usually included with RC models are only used for initial testing and charging. For high-quality regular charging of batteries, it is necessary to purchase a programmable charger.
Calculating charging time: If you are using a cheap charging adapter, you can calculate the approximate charging time by dividing the battery capacity (for example, 2000 mAh) by the output power of the charging adapter (for example: Output 350 mA). The resulting number means the charging time of a completely discharged battery. Example: 2000 : 350 = 5.7 hours. A less discharged battery will charge in a shorter time. Do not leave it charging for longer, overcharging damages the battery.
User advice:
The standard nominal voltage of a single Li-Pol cell is 3.7V. A fully charged one will reach 4.2V. Each Li-Pol battery pack, i.e. a two- or more-cell battery, should have two thicker power cables (red and black) used to connect the battery to the device and a bundle of thin service cables used for diagnostics and balancing. The biggest weakness of Li-Pol batteries is their sensitivity to the exact same charge of all cells in the set. If for some reason, for example, in a three-cell battery, you charge one cell more and another less, when using the battery, the less charged cell will discharge earlier. If its voltage drops below 2.7V, the cell is usually destroyed and that's the end of the whole set. Therefore, if you want the Li-Pol battery to serve well, always charge it on a programmable charger in the correct mode, which equalizes the voltage of the cells (balances) during charging. Model manufacturers include simple chargers in RTR sets that charge via service cables, but this is unreliable.
Never store them completely discharged. High-quality programmable chargers have a "storage" program that charges the Li-Pol battery so that it can then be stored for a long time. If you do not have a charger with such a program, charge the battery to 75% (3.8V per cell) and only then put it away.
Li-Pol batteries are sensitive to shocks and any damage. Always handle them carefully and make sure that they do not fall to the ground. Check the battery condition after each model crash. In the case of RC cars, use Li-Pol batteries in plastic cases marked Hardcase.
Make sure that your ESC controller is set to Li-Pol mode, which monitors the battery voltage to prevent it from being undercharged. If you are using an ESC controller that does not have Li-Pol mode, use a small external voltage detector with a siren.
A typical sign of a damaged Li-Pol battery is swelling into a "pillow". Slight swelling can be ignored and with careful handling, you can continue to use the battery. However, if the battery is swollen "to the point of bursting", it is already dangerous and should be taken to a collection yard immediately. Be careful, do not underestimate the danger of a swollen or otherwise damaged Li-Pol battery. It may start to burn and there is a risk of property damage or injury. Therefore, it is recommended to always charge the Li-Pol battery "in sight" and on a non-flammable surface. We offer special charging and transport packaging for Li-Pol batteries.
When driving in temperatures below 10oC, keep the battery in a warm place before use (heated car interior, inner jacket pocket...). Frost is definitely not good for these batteries.
The life of the battery depends on the method of use, discharge, charging and storage. The ambient temperature, possible overheating or hypothermia also have an impact. Usually the life is calculated based on the number of charging cycles of 30 - 50. The life can be shorter than 2 years. As the number of cycles increases, the battery's performance begins to decrease, so you will drive less than when it was new. When the battery ages, its internal resistance increases and it becomes so-called soft. While it will show a charged capacity when charging, the performance will be low.
The battery is a consumable product. The warranty covers only manufacturing defects (if any, they usually become apparent immediately upon first use). Decreasing capacity or overall deterioration of properties caused by use or long-term storage are not covered by the warranty. A battery with a voltage lower than 2.7V per cell caused by improper use cannot be claimed.
