KAVAN lithium phosphate (LiFe) batteries are an ideal source for powering on-board electronics of RC models of all kinds - either directly when using a receiver and servos designed for a supply voltage higher than 6, or with the help of a suitable stabilizer, a UBEC power supply with a 5V output for classic receivers and servos. They are also great for powering compatible model transmitters. Characterized by high energy density providing high capacity at relatively low weight and small dimensions. Basic features of FOXY LiFe cells:
The nominal voltage of LiFe cells is 3.2V. In operation, the cell voltage must never exceed 3.6V (when charging) and must never fall below 2.5V (when discharging). Exceeding these values will most likely cause irreversible damage to the battery. For this reason, it is necessary to use special chargers for LiFe batteries for charging. Failure to follow the correct charging procedure, as well as short-circuiting the cell, leads to overheating of the cell and damage to it by the gases generated. In extreme cases, a chemical reaction may start with the risk of cell explosion. Although LiFe batteries are quite safe when handled correctly, do not underestimate this danger!
Charging FOXY LiFe batteries
Always use a special charger designed for LiFe batteries for charging. It must be equipped with an automatic device ensuring that the maximum permitted voltage of 3.6V (+ 1%) per cell is not exceeded. Do not charge FOXY LiFe batteries with a current greater than 1C*, for normal operation we recommend using currents in the range of 0.5-1C. We recommend using a balancer with each charge.
We also recommend checking the voltage of the individual cells of the set before starting charging. If the cell voltage is lower than 2.8V, this means that you are overloading them and over-discharging them.
Unlike NiCd and NiMH cells, LiFe batteries do not require initial conditioning, but if you intend to charge the sets with a current of 1C, we recommend not exceeding a current of 0.5 C for the first three charging cycles. LiFe batteries also do not need to be discharged before charging. You can charge batteries that are 50% discharged.
Operation of LiFe batteries
Only use devices adapted to be powered by LiFe batteries. Try to avoid heavy loading of the batteries if they have less residual charge than about 20-25% of the nominal capacity (less than 3.0V per cell). LiFe cells of any brand are sensitive to overload in this area, which leads to a shortening of their service life.
Protect the receiver battery from vibrations and other shocks and shocks that may occur during the operation of RC models by wrapping it in foam rubber or similar material. Fix it in an easily accessible place on the model, where it will be protected from the penetration of fuel, exhaust fumes and other operating fluids or water.
Storage
The batteries are stored in a partially charged state, the voltage on the individual cells should be in the range of 3.30-3.35 V. If they are stored out of operation for a longer period of time, check the batteries and recharge them to storage voltage at least every 3 months.
