Product detailed description
RC model assembly kit.
The Tamiya WR-02 chassis features a solid monocoque chassis with side frames for added rigidity. The RC receiver, motor and battery are located along the centerline of the chassis, and power is delivered to the rear wheels via a fully enclosed differential-equipped gearbox. A wheel bar is located at the rear of the chassis, allowing for thrilling front-wheel-in-the-air rides. The 4-point double wishbone suspension and 2-piece steering linkage offer smooth steering response. Tires/wheels and gearbox/motor come pre-assembled for easy assembly.
You will need to purchase:
2-channel RC kit, steering servos, 7.2V battery, charger, and Tamiya paint for bodywork.

Break-in of a new electric motor
A new model with a motor must first be run-in. Before starting to use a DC electric motor, it is clearly recommended to run it in. Some manufacturers require it as a condition for recognizing a possible motor complaint. The purpose of the run-in is to ensure that the rotating parts are well seated, the friction surfaces of the contacts are smoothed, and the carbon brushes are ground to the correct shape. The current enters the motor on the commutator surfaces using the so-called carbon brushes, which may not have a perfectly adjusted shape from the factory. If a new motor is loaded to the maximum without prior running-in, the commutator surface or carbon brushes may be damaged due to excessive "sparking". Running-in will allow the carbon brushes to settle on the commutator as perfectly as possible. This will reduce wear on the carbon brushes and ensure a longer service life.
Procedure for running-in the electric motor:
-If you have a new RC car or boat model in which the motor is already installed, proceed as follows. Place the model on a support so that the wheels rotate above the surface. Let the motor run at the lowest possible speed for at least 20 - 30 minutes. Then you can drive the model for 20 - 30 minutes at a lower speed first and gradually increase the speed. Only drive the model at full power after the running-in phase has elapsed.
-If you have a new motor that has not yet been installed in the model, you can run it in the traditional, proven way, immersed in water. Connect the motor to the ESC controller and lower it vertically into a container of clean water by the cables. Start the motor at low speed and let it run for 10-15 minutes. Then you can gradually increase the speed to maximum for a few minutes. Finally, pull the motor out of the water and let it run for a while to blow the water out of the motor. You can mount the run-in motor in the model and you can drive at full power right away. You don't have to worry about the motor submerged in water. It will function normally and the water will cool it during the run-in. In addition, it will wash out carbon particles when grinding (the water will visibly darken).
Protection against overheating of the electric motor:
Since the stator is made of permanent magnets, it is good to know that these magnets gradually lose their "power". However, temperature also has a great influence. Every electric motor heats up during operation and can reach a temperature of 60o C (under no circumstances should you touch the motor with your bare hand!). If the engine is not cooled, or is driven for a long time at maximum speed, it may overheat and thus weaken the magnets. The engine will then not reach its previous performance even after cooling down. Of course, there is a risk of damage to other parts of the engine due to high heat. It is therefore advisable to change the load mode, or rather drive with two smaller batteries with a break for replacement and cooling, rather than with one large-capacity battery for a long time at full power.
Replacing the electric motor, tuning:
If you decide to replace the electric motor in this model, pay attention to the following recommendations.
The new motor should be of the same type (size), should have the same number of turns and the same supply voltage value as the original. This will ensure that the model will retain its original driving characteristics.
If you are planning a tuning engine, first of all check whether the original ESC controller in the model will be able to work with the tuning engine, to prevent the ESC controller from burning out or the ESC-motor system from malfunctioning. When tuning the engine, it is usually necessary to replace the pinion with a different number of teeth.
ATTENTION! This RC car is not a toy, but a more sophisticated, functional model. Given its realistic parameters, if it is not assembled and operated correctly, it can cause injury to you, or to a spectator, or damage property. The model is intended for driving in a large room, or outdoors on a dry surface. Driving in water, snow, puddles, mud, sand, or tall grass without proper waterproofing can damage the model's electronics. Driving on public roads and other places (e.g. parking lots) with car traffic is prohibited. Do not drive in thick grass, you will overheat or burn the engine!
This model requires regular maintenance, by properly disassembling it according to the service manual, you will not lose the warranty.
